Mop Cortex
- Libere Autoproduzioni Musicali Elettroniche Casalinghe (2006)
- 120806 (2006)
- Azangounon (2008)
- Journey in the Houses of Things (2009)
- Tango Down Collection (2012)
Mop Cortex is a solo electronic-music project and alias of Vincenzo Scorza, documented through self-productions and online music activity from at least 2005–2006. It is not a collective and is not a sub-project of Concrete Bologna. In a 2009 presentation, Scorza characterised its sound through dreamlike, distorted, convulsive, mechanical and inhuman qualities.
Discography and online activity
Documented releases include:
- Libere Autoproduzioni Musicali Elettroniche Casalinghe — 2006;
- 120806 — 2006;
- Azangounon — 2008, Sine3pm;
- Journey in the Houses of Things — 2009, A&G Records;
- Tango Down Collection — 2012, self-released.
The project’s 2012 SoundCloud activity also includes tracks and collections, including renewed public circulation of Azangounon. Later online uploads are not automatically the first publication dates of earlier music. Individual works such as BL-1 and AT2 (edit) have their own histories, including later reuse in other productions; the reuse is not an additional original album.
Original artist description, 12 March 2015
In a presentation written for a B-Cube performance, Scorza describes Mop Cortex as his IDM persona. He presents himself as a producer, sound designer and ‘sound sculptor’ working continuously with acoustic vibration, sonic material and form, balancing improvisation with structure. In this account, Azangounon (Sinewaves, 2008) marks a defining release of this electronic identity. Broken rhythms combine with calm or uneasy sound beds to depict altered states of consciousness: soundscapes for nightmares and dreams. The music can begin from a minimalist point and develop into finely shifting, crackling rhythmic structures, which Scorza compares with a Geiger counter.
Source note: the preceding paragraph is an editorial English translation/summary of Scorza’s original Italian description, not an original English quotation. The author also published a separate historical English presentation on SoundClick.
An electronic-music concert from the same period is not attributed to Mop Cortex unless the specific event’s documentation actually uses that project name.
Complete 2015 original artist presentation (English translation)
The Italian version of this entry reproduces the original text written by Vincenzo Scorza for a B-Cube performance on 12 March 2015. This is a faithful English translation, not the separately published original English biography available on SoundClick.
Mop Cortex is Vincenzo Scorza’s IDM soul. Vincenzo Scorza is a producer and sound designer with countless sonic facets, who has spent years manipulating acoustic vibration. He is a sculptor of sound, continuously exploring materials and forms in a constant effort to balance improvisation and structure. Mop Cortex was his electronic firstborn, christened with the album Azangounon (Sinewaves, 2008). Combining broken rhythms with relaxed or restless sound beds, Mop Cortex paints altered states of consciousness, soundscapes for nightmares and dreams. Starting from minimalist positions, his music becomes crackling and pragmatic, like a Geiger counter, evolving rapidly in a subtle way.
The Sinewaves name above is preserved exactly from the historical Italian artist statement. The archive elsewhere lists the Sine3pm imprint: this difference in label wording is not silently normalised or turned into a different release.
