Full modular impro with patch notes

Solo series started in 2020: modular-synth improvisations documented on video and accompanied by patch notes explaining signal flow and performance choices. The project was conceived on a much larger scale, but 13 episodes were ultimately completed.
2020 — 2021

  1. Andromeda — 20 ottobre 2020
  2. Antlia — 22 ottobre 2020
  3. Apus — 26 ottobre 2020
  4. Aquarius — 30 ottobre 2020
  5. Aquila — 5 novembre 2020
  6. Ara — 10 novembre 2020
  7. Aries — 12 novembre 2020
  8. Argo Navis — 18 novembre 2020
  9. Auriga — 30 novembre 2020
  10. Bootes — 6 dicembre 2020
  11. Caelum — 17 dicembre 2020
  12. Camelopardalis — 27 gennaio 2021
  13. Cancer — 3 marzo 2021

Media e documentazione

Full modular impro with patch notes is a solo research and audiovisual project by Vincenzo Scorza around Eurorack modular synthesis, improvisation and practical documentation.

Each recorded improvisation is accompanied by patch notes describing the modules, routing, synthesis and sequencing decisions, and solutions discovered during the performance. The emphasis is on explaining how a system was configured and what happened within it, not on pretending that a live improvisation is a reproducible finished track.

The project provided the methodological basis for the larger collaborative STARS — Modular Impro initiative, developed in 2021 with Andy Morello and Omri Cohen. The solo archive and the collective series are related but separately catalogued.

Archival series and episode list (translation from Italian)

The Italian archive documents the solo project as beginning in October 2020, conceived as a cycle of 88 improvisations, one for each of the 88 recognised constellations. Thirteen episodes are listed as having been realised:

  1. Andromeda — 20 October 2020
  2. Antlia — 22 October 2020
  3. Apus — 26 October 2020
  4. Aquarius — 30 October 2020
  5. Aquila — 5 November 2020
  6. Ara — 10 November 2020
  7. Aries — 12 November 2020
  8. Argo Navis — 18 November 2020
  9. Auriga — 30 November 2020
  10. Bootes — 6 December 2020
  11. Caelum — 17 December 2020
  12. Camelopardalis — 27 January 2021
  13. Cancer — 3 March 2021

The first eleven are included in the Full Modular Impro Vol. I release. Each episode is accompanied by audiovisual documentation and patch notes concerning signal routing, synthesis techniques and creative process. This is a translation of an existing archival episode list, not an assertion that each date was independently checked against a primary recording.
